What to do if you are bullied

Have you been or are you being bullied?

If you are bullied...

  • Report it: Tell someone you trust, or you could write a letter and give that to a trusted adult
  • If one person doesn’t help, don’t give up – find someone else
  • There is safety in numbers – don’t become vulnerable to bullies by being alone (friends help!)
  • We know it can be hard, but confidence and being ok in yourself about your sexuality or gender identity can help undermine homophobic bullying because there is no sting
  • Speak up and stand up for yourself by saying strongly that you do not like it and they should stop
  • Say no and walk away (walking away may give you more power… but sometimes it is safer to run away)
  • If you are bullied on a mobile phone or website, save it, tell someone, then report it to the phone company or website owner
  • Avoid the bully and avoid being in places where you feel unsafe
  • Find a safe place to go. Maybe the library or where your friends go.

This is the place on Curious where people can share their personal stories and experiences about sexuality and gender identity. Have a read of these.
