What to do if you are the bully
Have you ever been the bully?
If you are a homophobic bully or use homophobic language here is what you can do...
- Remember no one deserves to be bullied or harassed, ever
- Be careful about what you write, text and say – words are weapons and you never know who you might be hurting
- Ask yourself questions like ‘do I really need to act like this?’ ‘Why do I avoid using racist words but homophobic words are ok?’
- Consider how everyone needs a small bit of space to be themselves; just like you have
- Don’t be tempted to hurt others because they are different to what you are used to - everyone is different
- If you feel strongly, try to rise above it so that you do not direct anger at other people
- Talk to the teacher or another adult about your problems. They may be able to help you
- If you think you might have a different sexuality or gender identity yourself, talk to someone you trust and who you think will be understanding
- It’s never ok to bully people.
