2. Sex

How do you describe your sexual behaviour?

Sex is the physical part - having sex. If we decide to have sex, it is not important whether it is with someone of the same sex or the opposite sex. Who you have sex with will not change your sexual orientation.

We might have sex with…

  • someone of the same sex
  • someone of the opposite sex; or
  • no one. (Also sometimes called abstinence, delaying sex or celibacy)

Be responsible

Sex should be a choice and like all decisions, there may be consequences. Sex can affect your self-esteem and also carries the chance of pregnancy (just for boy/girl sex of course) or the increased risk of contracting HIV or an STI if condoms are not used. What’s important is that it feels right.

Being forced to have sex is not OK, that’s called sexual assault or rape.

This is the place on Curious where people can share their personal stories and experiences about sexuality and gender identity. Have a read of these.

I identify with the sexual orientation of Lesbian, I only feel romantically attracted to women. …
